Who We Are
The 3-Pronged Approach
MIFUMI uses the 3-pronged approach of PROVISION, PROTECTION and PREVENTION to counter domestic violence and bride price violations. This approach, highlighted below, in effect underlines the strategic objectives of the organization.
PREVENTION
We PREVENT by developing a protective and supportive environment for women and children experiencing DV/BPV in a sustainable way, through a zero tolerance campaign and education to young people in and out of school.
PROTECTION
We PROTECT by strengthening the response of strategic actors to women and children reporting domestic violence and bride price related violations (DV/BPV), and ensuring perpetrator accountability, through training and inter-agency collaboration particularly with the police, health service, and the local council structure.
PROVISION
We PROVIDE by increasing the quality and scale of services available to women and girls experiencing domestic violence and bride price violations (DV/BPV) by replicating the MIFUMI model of support and services. The domains of PREVENTION, PROTECTION and PROVISION form the cornerstones of the referral model of MIFUMI. This referral model is designed to ensure that survivors know of services available to them, how they can access these services, and where they can get support. It is also designed to restore confidence among survivors to allow them to report cases of DVBP before it is too late, knowing that they will be given protection, justice will prevail and perpetrators will be put to shame. The replication of this model calls for joint efforts.
